About ENF

Enetjärn Nature Foundation, ENF, was established in 2025 by Anders and Susan Enetjärn. After 25 years as entrepreneurs in the fields of environment and ecology, and as the founders and driving forces behind the consultancy firm Ecogain, Anders and Susan wanted to launch an advocacy foundation focused on nature and biodiversity.

The purpose of the foundation is to drive and support initiatives that help ensure the valuation and promotion of biodiversity become an integral part of decision-making in politics and business.

Simply put, the foundation aims to identify initiatives that can change norms regarding humanity’s relationship with nature. The foundation will also accept donations from donors who wish to scale up the foundation’s own funds.

Background

The idea of a foundation has developed over time. Anders Enetjärn always wanted to influence politics and decision-making in ways that go beyond what is compatible with running a consultancy firm like Ecogain, which he founded in 2001.

Over several years, the foundation’s objectives were formulated and refined. Many people with knowledge in the field were invited to contribute their input. The objectives must be consistent with the purpose and remain relevant over time.

In 2024, Anders and Susan Enetjärn joined forces with Fidelio Capital, and an international group of companies focused specifically on biodiversity and planetary sustainability, Myllium, was born. A majority of the founders’ ownership stake in Myllium is allocated to the foundation.

Following Anders and Susan Enetjärn’s agreement with Fidelio Capital, the foundation could be established. In June 2025, 1 million SEK was set aside as its initial capital. This was followed by a period of work to register the foundation with the County Administrative Board and the Swedish Tax Agency, as well as to develop and protect trademarks and domains.

On 19 November 2025, the Enetjärn Natur Foundation was formally registered as a separate legal entity and assigned its own organisation number.

what do the founders want?

The founders of ENF want the foundation to tackle the root causes of the biodiversity crisis and to highlight biodiversity solutions as part of a necessary transition towards planetary sustainability.

They believe that investing in nature promotes planetary sustainability as a whole. Planetary sustainability refers to the foundations of sustainable life on earth, planetary issues linked to biodiversity, all of which are interconnected. A stable climate, climate adaptation, the circular economy, sustainable land use, pollution prevention and the sustainable use of water resources – all of which are well captured in the six objectives of the EU Taxonomy.

By ‘solutions’, the founders mean that the foundation should build on the excellent track record Ecogain has established. With a focus on making a difference on the ground, rather than merely investigating, researching, producing documents and networking.

Inspiring initiatives from Ecogain that have made a tangible difference include the establishment of ecological compensation and the mitigation hierarchy as new concrete tools in land use. The CLIMB metric for quantifying biodiversity on the ground in Nordic nature is also an inspiring initiative. Europe’s first industry roadmap for biodiversity, ‘Mining with Nature’, is also a model of best practice. This roadmap is leading to real change on the ground and in companies business models.

The Foundation, however, must remain independent in its role; it must be able to act entirely free from any ties to the agendas of industry or other stakeholders.

Enetjärn Nature Foundation aims to promote initiatives that make the valuation of biodiversity a natural part of decision-making in politics and business internationally.
